Ken's as happy a clam (get it??) he tucks away his snorkeling treasure.

Ken and our new friends from Holland, Roger Marjolein, taking it easy in the warm water.

Stephanie chatting with two of the only other Americans we've met on this trip, Ruba and Jacob. They had just spent a semester studying in Australia and were on their way home for the holidays. They had been overseas since before September 11th and knew that America would feel

Sunrise from our bure.

Morning view from our bure... we couldn't put the camera away because it was so picture-perfect! (Well, ok, Stephanie't).

On the grounds of David's Place, leading from eating area to beach.

One of the gorgeous types flowers we saw everywhere. Many locals wear such as these behind their ear to symbolize whether they're married or available.

One of the bathrooms at David's Place... complete with fallen coconuts on the ground! There were a couple of toilets, two cold-water showers and a few sinks. At night, we had to walk there in the dark (watch out for land crabs, rocks and other obstacles).

One of two outdoor sinks where we washed our laundry. Old sink, cold water... not sure how clean the clothes got... but if it's good enough for locals, us.

The other bathroom. The big tank behind it is filled with rainwater. Once it runs out, that's it until a new barrel is lifted up. That's usually in the same day, but Stephanie had the unfortunate experience of one running out in the middle of her shower. Soaped up, hair and body, she had to throw her towel on and run across the grounds to the other set of bathrooms to rinse off. Not fun!

Just a cool shot of the coconut palms against whispy clouds.
fiji_yas_044
Just a large and very heavy palm tree branch (as Stephanie claims when she tried to lift it) which fell on our doorstep during windy night. Fortunately we weren't standing there it fell!
fiji_yas_045
Tired after a hard day of scuba diving, eating meals that were cooked for him, and lying on the beach. Poor guy!

If there's a Fijian photo contest, Stephanie ought to win first prize for this shot. was wonderful view from the beach at David Place.

The Mad Hatter Contest! The rules are simple: make a hat out of natural and local materials, wear it to dinner. So here we are, wearing our coconut shell beanie hats.
